Why would I need a dental implant?
Dental implants are replacements for missing teeth or bridges. An artificial implant is inserted into your jaw in order to hold a new replacement tooth or bridge. If you have lost a tooth or multiple teeth because of an injury or periodontal disease, then a dental implant may be an excellent way to restore functioning and enhance your cosmetic smile.
What is a dental implant?
There are two main types of dental implants: Endosteal implants (in the bone) and Subperiosteal implants (on the bone). Both types allow patients to smile confidently while restoring partial or full functioning to the missing teeth area.
Each implant consists of three parts: the implant, abutment, and crown. The implant is made of a small titanium post. This post takes the place of the missing tooth or teeth. As the healing process takes place, the bone will surround and grow around the titanium post implant. From here, the abutment will be screwed into the implant and provide a surface for the final crown to be cemented on to. This will conclude the process and only the crown, also known as “cap,” will be seen in the mouth.
